Senior Research Paper: Or In Other Words, Mabel Saw An Opportunity to Talk About Manga and Took It

Since this is a brand new blog, and y'all don't know very much about me yet (or read my About Me page and decided that it must not do me justice, because how could it?) nobody on this little corner of the internet knows that I'm a hardcore otaku. Really hardcore. I mainly prefer manga (because it's easier to absorb versus an anime that's shit quality on my dinosaur of a laptop), but when I heard that my senior research paper had to be about an art form and its influence upon the world, I knew what I was gonna write it about.

So far, what I'm going to write about can be organized into pretty little neat boxes:
  • The Beginnings of Manga and Anime and the War That Shaped It
    • A brief history how WW2 help create and shape the culture.
  • Japanimation: The Great Migration to the Western World
    • Explanation of how anime and manga moved towards the US and Europe (amongst other places) and how it stuck there by appealing culture starved younger generations.
  • In the Closet: Anime and Manga's Influence in the Sexuality Circles
    • The genres about gay love in anime and manga and how it influences people within the non-normative sexuality circles.
  • Bishoujos: The Women in Manga
    • A look at women in both manga and as mangakas (manga artists) and how the community perceives gender and equality.
  • Otaku: Reclaiming the Name and Western Outlook
    • The stigma of being called an otaku and how the Western world perceives the label.
  • The Philosophy of Naruto: A Fresh New View on Religion and Philosophy
    • Religious/Philosophical trends in mainstream manga & anime and it's place in the world
  • The World Wide Web: How the Internet Transformed the Otaku Circles
    • Introduction of the Internet and how it made manga and anime readily available to the world
  • The Weaboo Phase: Becoming Self Aware
    • A mini lesson of the derogatory term weaboo and the stereotypes normally associated to the word.
  • Hentai: The Black Sheep of the Family or the New Art Form?
    • The origins of the stigmatization traced back to hentai (fetishized/stylized porn), and the otakus outcry.
  • Subs vs Dubs: The Pros and Cons of the Japanese Language and a Translation
    • The different nuances in the original language and a translated voiced over version and its effects on the Western community.
  • Interviews of an Otaku: The Outreach of the Culture
    • Interviews of western otakus and the effect of anime and manga upon them.
And that's all I have so far. I'll probably go into further detail within each section in another post.

EDIT: Forgot to add the section about weaboos. Woops.

EDIT 2: Added a section about women/gender studies within manga and the tropes and influences it has upon the community.

EDIT 3: I now have a thesis statement. It reads as follows:
Anime and manga helped bring cultures together and spread globalization all while helping social outcasts of communities better their socializing skills.
Or something like that. It still needs work.
