The Lady Who Went Insane Chapter Two

Chapter Two:
Flying
She walked briskly,
Her red dress flaring to life,
As She made her way to the drawing room.

Clearing her throat,
She brought forth the attention
Of all the people who were in the vicinity.

“I am going,” She started,
With a hint of a tremor in her voice.
“I am going to fly.”

The gentleman guffawed at her brazen idea,
While the women chortled in silence behind their silken fans.

“You’re mad,” one said,
His blank face twitching
Into a condescending smile.

“It’s impossible,” a woman made of china exclaimed.

With the heat scorching her face,
She stood her ground and held her chin up.

“I will fly,” She amended.

And with that she left,
Taking the breath of fresh air with her
That oh so livened up the room.

And so the woman,
With their fine china hands and porcelain faces
Went back to talking about the air between the their ears,
And the men,
With their stuffing and padding in absurd places,
Went back to their conversations on nothing at all,
All while forgetting She who would fly.
